Q
Thank your John for your wonderful course structure and your vibrant voice in the Home Study Program. My question is 1) Could you please tell the difference between mind and brain? 2) I have attended a course in vipassana. It contradicts both visualization and verbalization. What should I do now? Does combining both teachings produce a better result, or will it be worse?
Sydney

I'm so glad you have the Home Study Program; it is a valuable part of developing mind power. Now to your questions: 1) The brain is the hardwiring, the motherboard of our consciousness. The mind/consciousness is not the brain just as a TV show is not the TV. 2) I don't believe vipassana contradicts visualization and verbalization, though its emphasis is on dealing directly with what is happening now in your life. It is a different way of approaching the mind. One way is not better than the other; they are just different approaches. You can use both systems if you so choose. For example, I am a big fan of Zen because Zen is the opposite of mind power, and since it is the opposite it gives me a balance that using one or the other would not.

Hi John, I have a question on affirmations. I know you advise that they should be done silently, but then others like Harv Eker and Tony Robbins suggest they should be done out loud while moving your body. Just wondering if you had thoughts on this and any reasons for the difference in methods?

A
Affirmations can be done silently or out loud, whatever way you choose. I don't insist that you do them silently. You can do them silently when you are in a crowded area or when people are around, but when you are by yourself by all means do them out loud, with enthusiasm and gusto. Have fun doing them and do them in a variety of ways. Affirmations are so powerful.
Q
I was raised spiritually by my religious mother. I just feel that using our mind's power is so strong that it contradicts all the teachings from the Holy Scripture that say only God is the one holding our life and driving it the way He wants. Are we committing sins through using our mind's power?
Philippines
A
There is nothing about the mind power system that contradicts anything in the Bible. In fact the Bible encourages us to use mind power, though it doesn't use these terms. For example, in the Bible it says, "Whatsoever ye pray for and ask for believing that ye have received it, ye will receive it." This is exactly what we do when we practice mind power. I have had many Christian ministers and teachers from all the different religions attend my seminars, so you can be assured this is a practice that is in full compliance with your religious beliefs.
Q
Hello Mr. Kehoe, I have enjoyed your work on and off for many years now, and have to say I am truly grateful for it! One question I have: I have trouble seeding (or connecting emotion to my thoughts or visualizations). How can I do this better? It is not coming naturally for me. If I just continue to do my exercise, will I eventually ‘feel it’ and just know? How can I connect emotionally to bring my goals into reality?

You will definitely get better with practice. Often in the beginning it is hard for us to "feel" the reality of what we are trying to achieve. Use your imagination. The imagination is a wonderful tool. Exercise it. Imagine what it might feel like to have or be what your trying to achieve. Little by little you will start feeling it. Also relax and don't try to force it. If you try too hard this can sometimes interfere. Just relax and make the exercises enjoyable. I hope this helps.
Q
A big thank you first of all for developing such a precise and to-the-point program. I have read your book Mind Power and am so convinced that I want to try all the techniques myself. A small question pops up in my mind though. When we affirm or visualize or contemplate what we want, is it necessary to be in a meditative state? I sometimes like daydreaming and, to be honest, find it easier to think and feel with open eyes. Can I have some guidance on this please!
New Zealand
A
Everyone does it slightly differently. This is the nice thing about Mind Power; it is adaptable to your preferences. If you want to do mind power as "daydreaming" and keep your eyes open, then do it this way. As you said, it seems to make it easier for you, and that is always good. The most important thing is that you do mind power regularly, as an everyday practice.
Q
You are a matric dropout and you want to go back to school but your mind is telling you that you won't make it. What to do?

This is a very good question. You are very observant to notice what your mind is telling you, but in mind power we realize that the mind is the great trickster and often gives us limiting suggestions. We don't always have to believe what the mind tells us. If YOU want to go back to school then tell the mind this is what you intend to do and give your mind positive suggestions to think about. Make a list of all your positive qualities and why you will be successful in school. Make another list as to why it is important to go back to school and finish your education. Read these lists twice every day to give your mind new material to work with. Also imagine yourself back at school and doing well. When you do this it gives the mind these images to work with. This is the first step in Mind Power. There are lots more ideas on this website. Thanks for your question, and feel free to use this website to be successful.
