Monthly Mind Power Questions & Answers

June 2001

Q How many goals can I work on at one time using mind powers?

A here's an old saying that says you learn to crawl before you walk and you learn to walk before you run. Initially, when you start working with Mind Powers, your most important objective is to prove to yourself conclusively that this works. If you disperse yourself over too many goals, you're going to find that you're just not going to be effective at it. So I suggest that, in the beginning stages of working with Mind Powers, you pick just a few things to work on and work diligently on them. Once you've manifested them, then you can work on more things. You'll gain proficiency and confidence as you go. Certainly you're not limited to one or two things. You can work on sometimes as many as five or six things simultaneously, but you can't work on twenty-five things. If you work on twenty-five you just end up needlessly diluting your energy.

Q I don't seem to get images when I visualize, I just sort of think about it. Am I doing it wrong?

A Very few people see crystal-clear images when they first begin to visualize. Mostly it is exactly as you say, you just sort of think about it. What you'll find is that the more you practice visualization, the more you will strengthen your imagination, and the more you will develop the faculty of actually seeing the images of the things you desire to have happen to you. But when you begin to visualize, this faculty is quite weak, and it's quite fine to just think about it. The most important thing is the feeling that you bring with it - the feeling that you already have achieved the thing you want. And when you work with this feeling, and just sort of think about it and dwell upon it and linger on it, that in itself will be sufficient to gain results. Certainly don't get concerned or discouraged because you can't see crystal-clear pictures in the beginning. The more you practice, the more adept you will become at using your imagination.

Q I have read your Mind Power book and have had great success with it. I've become very successful, and now have my own business, but I find in other areas, specifically in my relationships, I'm not getting the results I want. Why is that?

A You will find that some areas of your life will be more difficult to get results in than others, and this will be different for each of us. The reason for this is that, on a subconscious level, we have beliefs and patterns that are hindering us in these areas of our lives. So any area of your life where you're having problems and difficulties, what you'll undoubtedly find if you look closely, is that there are a number of very limiting beliefs regarding that particular aspect of your life. Sometimes we're conscious of it. Sometimes we're not. That is why in some areas it seems to be so much easier than others. But certainly don't get discouraged by this. It just means that you need a bit more work in that area. And congratulations on having your own business.

Q What is the single most important thing to remember about Mind Power?

A Persistence. You must get beyond the theory, beyond reading books or listening to tapes and actually practice it, each and every day. There is power in persistence. Doing even five minutes every day will work wonders. Inertia, laziness, skepticism, being too busy - there are many possible reasons for not practicing the techniques, but unless you have the desire and the persistence you will not be able to get results.

Q What is the subconscious mind and how can I best work with it?

A

That's a good question. First of all, it's very difficult to tell what exactly the subconscious mind is because we're not consciously aware of it. We only get to experience it indirectly. Even the name subconscious is a bit of a misnomer in the sense that it's not sub, as below consciousness. It seems to be connected holographically to all consciousness - that is we are plugged into the whole system. Just become aware that we do have this second mind and that it is a very powerful mind.

There're two functions of the subconscious mind that we can learn to work with very effectively. Number one, we can call upon the subconscious to bring us the insights, the answers, the information that we desire both in our personal and business lives.

The second aspect of the subconscious mind that I find most exciting is that we can imprint into our subconscious any thought or image we wish to see manifest. Any thought that is repeated over and over again on a subconscious level will make an imprint. And once it imprints on the subconscious it then attempts to manifest itself in our life. It will attract the people, the circumstances, the events, the synchronicity that is necessary to see that manifestation occur. We can control and direct our destiny because we can control and direct our thoughts.

Q Is your intuition always right, or can it mislead you?

A Intuition is one of the ways that the subconscious speaks to us. The subconscious will inform us through one of three ways - through dreams, through hunches and feelings, or through our intuition. And our intuition is always right in the sense that it will always guide you towards the goals and objectives you desire, and it will always give you very accurate information. What sometimes confuses us is that there are other messages inside our mind. There are emotions. There are feelings. There are desires. There are subconscious beliefs. And all of these can sometimes disguise themselves as intuition, and sometimes we mistake these other parts of us for our intuition. In fact this is probably the number-one stumbling block in learning to harness your intuition - learning to tell the difference between these different parts of us. And the way to tell the difference between your intuition and these other things is simply by working with intuition regularly and consistently. As I like to tell my students, "You always know your lover's voice." In other words, when you work with it regularly and consistently you will notice the feeling, the sensation, both in your physical body and your mind, when your intuition is working for you. It will have a very high vibration. It will come with a sense of authority and excitement. In the beginning stages it feels like trial and error, but your intuition will become stronger and clearer with practice. And trust me, it will never mislead you, though it might surprise you with what it says. As the Rolling Stone song goes, "You don't always get what you want - but you get what you need."

Q I'm having a midlife crisis. How should I use Mind Power to get over it?

A A midlife crisis is a wonderful thing to have happen to you. It is the psyche's way, at the midpoint in our life, of forcing us to examine our values, our goals, what it is we have chosen for ourselves in life. And it's great that the psyche shakes us up and makes us examine what is important to us, what is important to a life. Am I living my life in the right way? Am I doing the things that I should be doing? What could I be doing more of or less of? All these are very valuable and important questions. So rather than responding negatively to your midlife crisis, use it as a time to closely examine what is happening in your life. Examining our life in honest self-reflection almost always produces valuable insights. Too often we're too busy to take the time to do this. A midlife crisis forces us to do so and that's why it's so valuable. Now I'm not saying that a midlife crisis is pleasant. It's not pleasant at all. But nonetheless the alchemy produced by it and the insights that one gains by correctly going through it tend to be very valuable. So change your attitude towards your midlife crisis and look at it as an excellent opportunity to make some changes. It's actually a very good thing.

Q I have been trying to break down old patterns of negativity. I was raised in quite a negative environment. What can I do?

A If you've been raised in a negative environment, then undoubtedly you have negative beliefs about yourself and the world you live in. And this is extremely unfortunate. But at a certain point in our life, we must take responsibility for our life and let the past be the past. There's no question that a child who is raised in a positive environment - who is taught to believe in herself or himself, who is taught that she or he can do anything, and taught that she or he has creativity - that child will have an enhanced sense of self-esteem as she or he grows into an adult. These beliefs and feelings of self-worth and of competence will carry through into his or her adult life, just as will the opposite sorts of beliefs. But luckily for us at any point in our life we can take a stand. It doesn't matter if you've been raised in a dysfunctional family, doesn't matter what your past record of success or failure has been, what you need to do is you need to examine your thoughts and your beliefs and take responsibility for them right now. If you look at the Topic of the Month for September, you will find Techniques for Eliminating Negatives from our mind. So begin by working with these techniques and begin by working on your self-image and confidence. What you'll find is that with Mind Powers you will completely turn around your negative environment and become a very confident, self-fulfilled person. If you are committed to your personal growth, even ten minutes a day using these methods will produce excellent results.
