Q What are some really easy and powerful ways to reprogram the mind? One method I came across lately is a software program I bought that flashes subliminal messages on the computer screen. I'm looking for ways to reprogram my mind and subconscious with positive messages in a powerful way, in the easiest way possible.
North Vancouver
A There are two schools of thought regarding subliminal messages. First, that they work fabulously, and second, that they don't work at all. Personally, I think the real power of subliminal messages is in the placebo effect. In other words, their real power is in your own belief and expectation that they will work.
Anyone who has studied with me or read my books knows I am a big believer in persistence. Nothing, and I repeat, nothing reaches the subconscious better than persistence. You reprogram your mind by deciding what new beliefs you require and then spending five or ten minutes a day both contemplating and repeating them to yourself. Imprinting new beliefs is easy, providing you have the persistence and dedication to do it daily for 60-90 days. This seems to be the magic amount of time for a new concept or belief to become imprinted.
For more on this, see the videotape, Creating New Beliefs, a one-hour personal instruction on just this topic. I am usually reserved about pushing my books, tapes and videos, but sometimes I like to remind my readers that there is a wealth of information available to you at incredibly low prices check out the products available on this web site if you haven't already done so.
Q I have a problem at this time in my life with a very, very negative outlook on life. It is not really conscious, just the way that I react to everything. This is a very intangible thing. I want to use mind power to start turning this attitude around, to start reacting more positively. The question is how do you put something so intangible into a form that can be addressed using your techniques?
Hope you can help.
Sunninghill, South Africa
A There are several things I like about your question. First you say you have "a problem" with a very negative outlook on life. You're right, it is a problem, and how astute of you to recognize this. Most people who are negative blame others, or life, and not their own thinking. How wise and enlightened of you to recognize that the problem lies in your attitude. I wish everyone could see this as clearly as you.
Since you have identified the problem so accurately, the second part, using mind power will be simple. The mind power system taught on this web site is complete; it certainly will address your attitude, and offers an easy step-by-step system to obtain the results you're looking for.
Read the Mind Power Into the 21st Century book, which is the basis of all my teaching. Practice the techniques. Pour over this web site. There is a Question and Answer index of all my answers. Study this and practice Mind Power daily for fifteen or twenty minutes and your life will completely transform. Your outlook on life will change, and as this changes, new more exciting experiences will come to you. Welcome to the adventure.
Q I have recently been diagnosed with an illness and am using Mind Power techniques to try to heal my body. My question is this: what is your view on becoming involved with a support group for an illness? You have talked about associating with successful people if one wants to be successful, so does this mean that one should associate with healthy people if one wants to overcome an illness - in other words will it drag me down to be involved in a support group where there are others with the same illness? One could look at it another way and say that people who attend a support group are all people who are taking a positive step to fight their illness and help others in the same boat as themselves, and that to soak up that energy would be beneficial.
New Zealand
A This is a very good question, and I had to think about it for several minutes before I responded. First of all, let me say that not all support groups are created equally. I would suggest that you go to the support group and see how you feel when in it. When you come out of the meetings, how do you feel? Do you feel uplifted? Do you feel positive? Or do you feel depressed? Do you feel like there's no hope? What kind of energy happens in the group? What is the collective attitude of the group? Is it a positive upbeat attitude or is it one of people just complaining about their illnesses?
Also, do they understand and practice Mind Po techniques? It might be an excellent opportunity for you to introduce these techniques to the people in the group. What do they think about the powers of the mind and the ability of the powers of the mind to heal? So I think it's a choice that you have to make after seeing how you feel being within the group. It certainly doesn't hurt to have support from other people.
Q I have just turned 20 and will be undertaking a study in Information Technologies next year. I have just finished you book "Mind Power" and found it to be the most inspirational book I have read. I want to start using your ideas but I don't know where to start. My biggest problem is that I get very excited about new ideas but soon find that burning desire goes out. I have a bad habit of starting things and not finishing them and that's the question I have for you: How can I program my mind to concentrate and persist with what I start, and what's the best technique to be using?
Queensland, Australia
A You can program your mind with whatever images or beliefs you choose. That is the great control that Mind Power gives you. If you have a bad habit of starting things and not finishing them, then what you want to do is to visualize yourself as being the type of person that not only begins things but finishes them and does them well. So the question to ask yourself is what indeed do I want? What type of person do I wish to become? Then begin visualizing yourself as that type of person. You will become whatever you consistently think of as yourself. What wonderful techniques and methods to learn at the young age of twenty. You have a great future ahead of you working with mind powers.
Q What is the single most important thing to remember about Mind Power?
A Persistence. You must get beyond the theory, beyond reading books or listening to tapes and actually practice it, each and every day. There is power in persistence. Doing even five minutes every day will work wonders. Inertia, laziness, skepticism, being too busy - there are many possible reasons for not practicing the techniques, but unless you have the desire and the persistence you will not be able to get results.
Q What are the main common mistakes made by Mind Power students?
A There are two. First-not doing the work. Fooling yourself by believing that because you are reading books about Mind Powers or thinking about the concepts or being positive, you're doing your exercises. Unless you chart yourself daily to carefully monitor when you do your exercises and when you don't, you're almost sure to not do them daily. It's incredibly hard to do these exercises daily. Not that the exercises are hard but the discipline needed to do them is lacking.
Sure, anybody can do it for a few days or even a few weeks. But 60 days? Can you do the exercises every day for 60 days without missing a day? Very few can and that's why very few actually master Mind Powers to anywhere near its potential. Its infinitely better to do five minutes every day than one hour once or twice a week. It's the daily practice that brings the best results, and our mind is incredibly tricky in coming up with excuses and ways to keep us from doing the exercises. It takes diligence, discipline and awareness.
The second common mistake is trying too hard. Forcing it. Wanting it so desperately that you actually keep it from coming to you. Relax. Let it happen naturally; it will if you let it. And don't be continually looking for results. This constant examining, questioning is unnecessary and counterproductive. Certainly you should determine whether what you're doing is working or not, but not daily or even weekly. Check in month by month to see what progress you're making. Checking in more than this only hinders you. Having said this, you may very well start seeing incredible results well before this, and by all means acknowledge these results, but if they don't happen that's okay too. Just keep doing the exercises without feeling anxious.
Q I purchased and read your book 'Mind Power' this evening. I find that I am constantly thinking of situations in terms of how 'I' am effected and/or perceived. You mention the Zen teachings. Essentially, Zen teachings preach that the 'self' is a delusion. What are your feelings on seeing virtually everything in terms of 'self?'
Boston, Massachusetts
A This is an interesting question and I'm not sure how to answer it. I am attracted to Zen because in many ways it's the polar opposite to what I teach. Zen teaches you to lose the 'I' and merge into everything. I teach you to use the "I" to manifest success in your life. I think both approaches have their merit, and there's nothing preventing you from combining different systems. Drink deeply from many sources and design something that 'feels right' for you. I practice both methods and, even though they seem contradictory, I find they compliment one another well.
Q I have recently finished reading The Practice of Happiness and must admit that I ended each section feeling very positive. My question is with regards to mind powers. Using these techniques, I found who I thought was my ideal partner, but after three months the relationship fell apart. I have started practicing mind powers again, but still wonder what I did wrong before. Also I have completed nearly 50 days (of the 90-day club), but one night I fell asleep before I could carry out my visualisation and seeding. I awoke at 3 A.M. and did them then. Will this hinder the results? Do I have to restart the 90-day regime again? Thank you again for sharing what you know with us.
Wellington, New Zealand
A First, you didn't do anything wrong with regard to your relationship. You just took an interesting detour. Using mind powers to attract the perfect relationship doesn't necessarily mean that the very next one will be it.
Each relationship teaches us something about ourselves, and hopefully we are the better for it. Take the wisdom and insights you learned, continue practicing mind powers, and soon your ideal partner will be there.
Secondly, I love your persistence and dedication to joining the 90-day club. That dedication will gain you whatever you desire. By waking up at 3 A.M. and doing your exercises you kept the momentum going. You do not need to restart.
Q I purchased an excellent tape from you on visualizing and affirmations, and I am presently at day 50. I was wondering if it would help if, after the 90 days, I make myself a tape with my voice repeating affirmations to help in changing my subconscious mind even deeper, that is using my own voice as opposed to yours?
Langdon, AB
Canada
A Repetition of instructions to the subconscious mind works wonders. The affirmation and visualization tapes available on this website have assisted thousands to achieve their goals, and I'm glad you're getting results. Once you have used the tapes as instructed for 90 days and understood the principles involved in creating such a tape, nothing is stopping you from creating your own tapes according to your own specific requirements. Whether it is my voice or your own giving your subconscious mind instructions matters little. What is important is that you regularly feed your mind with the images and suggestions that you wish to manifest.
Q Towards the beginning of 2004 I realised that I started KNOWING when I dream. In other words I was conscious that I was dreaming and I CHANGED the dream to fit my agenda. For example, I dreamed that I was in a moving car as a backseat passenger with friends of mine. Then the driver suddenly went straight for a solid wall. I realised this, suddenly changed positions with him and drove the car safely back onto the road. This dream stopped for about 3 months, and then last night it happened again. I was totally aware that I was dreaming. Why does this happen? And is this common? What is the meaning of this? I must add I am totally aware one creates one's own reality, and that our subconscious mind has the power to do this. Could this conscious fact influence my behaviour in dreams?
Pretoria, South Africa
A It is called lucid dreaming' when you are aware that you are dreaming. It is not common, and people work very hard to have it happen to them. You are very fortunate that you have this ability, and you can use it to great advantage.
You can indeed change the dream to fit your agenda. I would suggest that you prepare a number of questions you would like answered about your life, and arrange in the dream for a whiteboard or a notebook to be available. Then ask the question in the dream and have yourself or another character write down the answer. In this way you're getting the information from beyond the conscious mind. This could be a very valuable and helpful tool for you in decision-making.
