Monthly Mind Power Questions & Answers

November 2002

Q I have read Mind Power into the 21st Century but was left wondering. To me, the laws in the book work wonderfully but what about the focus? What about questioning where Home is, the spiritual world? Yes I could use the laws to better my material life and spiritual well-being, but what about focusing on the eternal well-being? Going home, the methods to attain the ultimate.

A The beautiful thing about Mind Power is that it can be used according to the individual's desires and goals. You're absolutely right that most of the focus in Mind Power Into the 21st Century is on attaining material things. Having said that, these techniques work wonderfully well for helping yourself with both enlightenment and spiritual nourishment. In fact, if you study all the great mystics down throughout the centuries, you will see that they have used always mind power techniques to connect with the spirit. So these techniques work equally well for spiritual material matters as they do for material matters. Use the information as you feel you should. There are excellent techniques here.

Q Are you saying that we should never have a negative thought? Never be depressed, never feel despair? Isn't that unrealistic?

A It's funny, sometimes when I do my seminars people will approach me and say, "Do you ever have negative thoughts?" I don't know what people's image is of me, but certainly I have negative thoughts sometimes. We all have negative thoughts. For example, if you've had a very traumatic incident in your life where a family member has died, or maybe your wife or husband is divorcing you, you feel grief, you feel depressed, you experience a whole range of emotions. All these things are valuable. All these things are necessary. All these reactions are part of the psyche dealing with a traumatic situation. So not only are they necessary but they can be very useful. But what is harmful is when these negative feelings and thoughts overpower us, when they dominate us. This is where they overstep their boundaries. So by all means allow yourself to feel whatever feelings seem appropriate in any given situation. Sometimes there's nothing better than a good afternoon of depression. Go ahead, feel sorry for yourself. Let it out all hang out. But when that is over, then move on in your life. Allow yourself the freedom to experience the full range of emotions - depression, grief, fear, anger - but do not let them dominate you. Do not let them overwhelm you. Do not let them be your steady companions, day in and day out.

Q I have just read Mind Power into the 21st Century and wish to start applying the principles in my life to achieve my goals. The problem is, I don't know where to start. Should I choose only one particular goal and do the visualizations and seeding and affirmations for that goal? Or can I do many affirmations but seeding and visualizations for one or two goals? Do you need to concentrate on only one thing at a time, then move on to another once it has been achieved? Please help! I am eager to get started because I know I am going to have great results.

A You are not limited to one or two goals using mind power. Having said that, if you try to work on eight or ten goals you're probably going to dilute your energy. There is an old maxim in mind power: "You crawl before you walk and you walk before you run." Your first objective as a new mind power student is to demonstrate to yourself how powerful your mind is. You can best do this by applying yourself diligently to just a couple of goals in the beginning. When you have achieved these, move on to more. I suggest you listen to my "Setting up a Mind Power Program" tape. It provides you with everything you need to know. All the success.

Q John, I recently read your books The Practice of Happiness and Mind Power Into the 21st Century, and I was like a sponge sapping up all the golden words of advice. After much debate and anger and disillusionment with the corporate world and all its politics, I have decided to commence my own business, utilising my academic background, a B Com (Honours) in Marketing Management, together with my talent for lateral and creative thinking. This I have been told on numerous occasions. Also, it was as though something was telling me to get out of the stifling corporate environment where I always felt a bit like a square peg in a round hole. I still, however, have a fear of failure. How do I overcome this fear, as I really wish to make a success of my business?

A When you make major changes in your life, it is only natural to experience a bit of fear and apprehension. After all, you are leaving something that is safe and known, and moving into the unknown. In the beginning stages, you will oscillate between exhilaration at your new decisions, and worry that maybe you're making a mistake. Don't worry; this is a natural occurrence.

Remind yourself that fortune favours the bold, and that a successful life requires taking chances. When you follow your heart and instinct, life always leads you in the right direction, even if there are some unknown detours along the way.

Fortunately, you have mind power techniques to assist you. Keep in your mind the goals you want to achieve in your new business. Keep mentally imaging success and check in regularly with your subconscious for answers. I have no doubt you will do well and be both financially better off and much happier. Be brave, be bold, and carry on. You've made the right decision.
