Monthly Mind Power Questions & Answers

Q Have you any tips on tapping into luck energy, winning states of mind, breaking through limitation, using the unconscious as a way of winning?

Dublin, Ireland

A In my book Money Success & You, I share a story about a friend of mine and myself using the expression, "Just our luck!" every time we went out sailing and encountered good weather and excellent winds. We started it almost as a joke, but something remarkable happened. We started saying it every time something good happened to us. "Just my luck," I would say whenever something fortunate happened. My friend did the same. Over a period of three months we continued using this expression, and began attracting lucky "coincidences." We had programmed our minds to think of ourselves as lucky, and that is exactly what happened. I still, to this day, use the expression, "Just my luck," when something good happens unexpectedly to me.

This is a very simple but effective method, and all the more revealing when you realize that ninety-nine percent of people use the expression when misfortune happens to them. Think of the programming being done to the subconscious! Hey, it's "just your luck" that I should choose to answer this question.

Q Could you please elaborate on how our emotions affect our universe? I've been doing a lot of reading on mind power and how we create and influence the things that happen around us. And I'd like to share something interesting I recently came across. In a book I was reading, the author spoke of how we create certain circumstances through the words we say. She spoke of how we don't realise how powerful the sounds are that we send into the ethers through our spoken words, that we don't realise that anything may be caused to materialise through the process of imaging it vividly and intensely in the mind, then speaking aloud the words describing it. This is basically the message you bring to us. My question to you regarding this matter is would it be possible to bring forth or call upon certain circumstances to take place in our lives, in the sense that if I wanted to "run" into someone who could help change or steer my career in a certain way, would I be able to?

Pimville, South Africa

A Of course. This is exactly what happens when we experience synchronicity. Regularly affirm to yourself that you attract people and circumstances beneficial to your career, and that is exactly what will happen. Incredible but true. I do it myself, all the time.

Q I love metal (music) and want to know if it could effect my life cause of the
repetition! I don't know who to ask but you. So could you please help me out with tips if any.

South Africa

A This is an excellent question and my first response is to think back to my early high school years when I was playing the Stones "Can't Get No Satisfaction" over and over again, and one wonders if indeed that was an inhibiting factor in my having a girlfriend during those early stages. However, let me give you my real thoughts on this matter.

First of all, if you love metal music, then by all means play metal music. I'm not a big fan of metal music myself, but then we probably have a generation gap here. It's always my feeling that every generation tortures the one above it with their music. I certainly tortured my parents with my music and I think that's the nature and dynamics of music. So if you love the metal music, by all means play it and enjoy it.

Do I think that it is having a harmful effect on you? No, not at all, providing that you are programming, imprinting positive images into your mind. Listening to metal music in itself will not have any harmful effect. Just remember to program your mind with positive images, with positive self-images, and to keep your mind working on these things. That way the music will just be there to enjoy.

Q I am currently unemployed. How can I use Mind Powers to get a good job?

Toronto, Canada

A First of all, you want to make a decision on exactly what it is that you would like to do. Do you enjoy working with people? Would you like to be in sales? Perhaps you have a particular interest in writing, or films. Maybe you want to work outside and be in nature. The first decision that you have to make is exactly what type of a job it is that you are looking for.

Once you have made that decision, then what you want to do is imagine yourself in that job. Use the visualization technique and spend time each day visualizing and imagining yourself having that type of job, being in that job, enjoying it, it being tremendously gratifying for you. Affirm to yourself daily that the perfect job is yours, that you
are in a new job and that you love your new job. Acknowledge yourself for the strengths that you have, for the talents that you have, and build up a Mind Power program so that you can see, feel, seed and vibrate with the feeling that you already have this job you want. When you do this daily, what happens is it builds up a vibration of energy that will
then attract to you the job you're looking for.

Now when I say that you do these things internally, this is to create the vibration and energy of attracting the job to you. Also it means that you will be on the lookout for this type of job. Start looking in the papers. Start talking to your friends. Call up companies that perhaps might offer leads on where you might find employment in the particular area you're looking for. So it's not just that you work mentally, you also allow your actions to cause this to happen as well. Remember, the inner controls the outer. Your thoughts are the inner and your actions are the outer. Following this system, what will happen is you will be led to a job that is very appropriate for you.

I also note that you are from Toronto. I suggest that you log onto our calendar of tour dates and you will see that I'm going to be in Toronto in October. Please come and see me at my free seminar, and I looking forward to hearing about your new job at that time.

Q My question for you is, what is the best or easiest way to work with visualization to achieve your goals, as I know you must believe in your objective in order to get results, and I find myself doubting a lot.

New Mexico, USA

A Sometimes when we do our visualizations, especially in the early stages, there is a part of us that doubts whether or not we will get results. We find ourselves thinking, "Maybe I'm wasting my time. This is not going to work. I'm just fooling myself." These thoughts are natural. They don't really have any more power over us than any other thoughts. Gently dismiss them from your mind and lose yourself in your visualization.

Sometimes when you're doing your visualization for five minutes it will appear that you're just going through a mechanical act. However, at other times when you're doing the visualization, it becomes quite exciting and you become enflamed with the idea of, "Yes, it is going to happen."

You will go through all kinds of different feelings, emotions, sensations during a visualization. The real key is to do it regularly and persistently. You must chart yourself and do it for five minutes each day. Each time that you do this visualization it will become more powerful and more real within you, and the vibration of energy will more strongly attract to you the things that you are visualizing. But certainly in the beginning stages of starting a new visualization, you go through a lot of different doubts and feelings. Ignore them, keep the practice going, you will get what you want.

Q I would like to know if it is possible for a person to rely on intuitive decisions?

A Intuitive decisions are usually accurate and soul fulfilling. Our intuitive faculties "know" in a deeper, more holistic way what is needed in our life, what will be most fulfilling. However, logic too should be acknowledged and listened to. One should explore all avenues of information.

What does your heart say?

What does your logic say?

What does your intuition say?

Weigh it all, and then make a decision. If there is some confusion, and often there is, go within to the silence and ask again. Trusting our intuition, while weighing the other factors as well, will lead to good decisions.

Q Thank you so much for your book, Mind Power! To my delight, I have accomplished some small "test" goals via the exercises, and likewise your writings have been a real source of hope and optimism during a period of difficulty. In that respect, I believe that I found my way to your book because of a "crisis of trust" in my life. As I struggle to overcome my hurt, I still have questions that I hope you can answer. I agree with you that much of the "good" and "bad" that happen to each person can be traced to one's own actions and thoughts, but with that in mind, how can one explain a profound betrayal, despite consistent positive thoughts about that person who hurt you? Even more importantly, how can the person that has been betrayed convince themselves that despite this event, their own judgment about others can still be valid and accurate? I am not sure exactly how to visualize this. Thank you.
Riverside, California, USA

A I'm glad you said "much" of the good and bad can be traced to our actions and thoughts. Nothing is ever one hundred percent. Also it is always difficult to explain any one incident in a person's life. "Why has this happened to me?" we ask. Let me try to answer. I always like to look for patterns in a life. For example, if you have a pattern of being betrayed, or a pattern of being sick, or a pattern of failing at your goals, you have to assume something within you is causing this. If, on the other hand, your betrayal has happened only once, well, welcome to life. Life is filled with both pleasant and unpleasant experiences.
You ask how can you convince yourself that your judgment is still valid and accurate. Because you got it wrong this time doesn't mean you get it wrong all the time. Remind yourself of this. I know it's tough when you get hurt, but there are lessons here too. Reread the chapter, "No Such Things as Problems, Only Opportunities." Regaining your confidence and trust and 'rising from the ashes' may well give you new strength and determination. Who knows, twenty years from now you might see this as a powerful turning point. I know it's a clich but it's nonetheless true: time heals all wounds. Take care.

Q I am software developer doing reasonably well in my profession. I came from a very poor family. When I completed my graduation, my first aim was to bring up the status of my family, and so I really worked hard. For some time I thought that this was what I wanted to do in life, but I was never sure about it. Now we are in a better position. My parents are proud of me for my hardworking attitude, but I always feel I am missing something in life. I am not sure what. Sometimes I wonder whether I am really following my dreams, or just walking aimlessly. Sometimes I feel very low, because I am the only earning member in my family and always fear losing my job. Because of this I am very cautious in whatever I do and don't come out like a daring man. I hope I am able to define my situation well enough for you. Could you suggest anything for me?

Essen, Germany

A As I mentioned in an earlier answer, what is appropriate for us at one point in our life can often be inappropriate at another. This is an important truth to remember. Life consists of many phases and wise is the person who can recognize this and flow in new directions as a different phase makes itself known.

It sounds like you have done very well in raising the status of your family, which was your goal for some time. Now you wonder whether there is more to life. This wondering is a wonderful thing. Trust your feelings. Perhaps a new phase is making itself known to you. Perhaps being "a daring man" is exactly what is needed.

I suggest you look at your life to see what is important to you NOW. There is an old saying, "In your haste to make a living, don't forget to make a life." I'm suspecting that an interesting fulfilling life is calling to you. Listen to this call, and don't be afraid. You can change and become whatever you want using Mind Power.

Q I just want to know how can my mind heal me? Does the mind play an important part in a person's illness and how?

Bloemfontein, South Africa

A Our mind plays a crucial role in our health. On a very basic level, thoughts of hate, jealousy, fear and greed are toxic mental states and can constrict the life force within us. Depressed and fearful people are, on the whole, much less healthy than positive happy people.

On the other hand, thoughts of love, gratitude, contentment and generosity promote health. So the first step to self-healing is ensuring that your thoughts vibrate at a higher, healthier frequency.

Once you have worked to change your attitude, you can work with Mind Power techniques such as visualization and affirmations to heal your illness. I suggest you read the chapter on "Healing Yourself" in Mind Power Into the 21st Century.

Q I have a burning desire to play rugby for the All Blacks. Can you please suggest some ideas I could use with seeding, visualising and affirmation techniques? I promise I will send one of my All Black jerseys to you when I am selected.

Ashburton, New Zealand

A All accomplishment begins with vision and desire. Your burning desire is your will. Now you want to add your imagination. When will and imagination are combined and persisted with, there is almost nothing you cannot accomplish.

I would suggest having both long- and short-term goals. Your long-term goal is playing with the All Blacks. You can seed and visualize and affirm yourself a young man playing for this team. Daily keep this in your mind. However, your short-term goals are very important too. Ask yourself what do I need to accomplish this year? At what level do you want to be playing? How fast do you want to run? Kick the ball? Tackle? Set short-term goals for yourself and seed, visualize and affirm that they will happen too.

Do this each year as you get better and better. Soon you will be playing at a level where you will be noticed and eventually picked for the team. I'm very excited for you, and look forward to my signed jersey.
