Q I usually practice the visualization/affirmation exercises twice per day in 15-minute segments. Is this as beneficial as practicing once per day for 30 minutes?
Goffstown, USA
A No matter which way you use the techniques, you will be effective because you have the most important factor correct, namely daily practice. It is the daily part that is important. So doing the exercises in the morning or evening or once or twice a day is up to each individual. Do what feels right to you .
Congratulations on your daily practice. You are sure to see results.
Q I am 22 and have been practicing mind power and meditation for over a year now, and while I feel more and more at peace with my life, I still have one recurring problem. In my personal relationships, I get very angry and very jealous. If my boyfriend does anything that I think is wrong or disrespectful to me (even if it is not), I get so angry and I feel like I just want to explode. It is as if I can't think properly, I am overwhelmed by my anger and I feel like I have to do something to let my anger out, and I shout at him and hurt him until I feel better. I can feel my boyfriend becoming more and more distant and being afraid to talk to me because I might explode. It is ruining not only our relationship but also my self-esteem. I have tried to do everything to prevent it from happening, and I feel very guilty and unable to forgive myself for hurting someone whom I care about. I don't understand where this anger comes from and why I seem unable to control it. Could it have anything to do with my parents, who also had an unhappy marriage? It has happened in all my previous relationships. I am feeling more and more hopeless and confused. Please help me.
London
A Your problem is not with your boyfriend but with yourself. It is time for some real soul searching to discover why you feel so insecure and inadequate. You mentioned this has happened in all your previous relationships, so this is a clue that it has nothing to do with your boyfriend, and everything to do with yourself. Any time we see re-occurring patterns in our life we can safely assume there are subconscious beliefs that are causing this. Here's what I suggest.
Think of your boyfriend as your teacher/helper to assist you in overcoming this negative habit. The next time you find yourself ready to explode, don't. Affirm to yourself that whatever incident has caused you to be upset is a mirror for you to look within. Welcome it. It is a door through which you must pass in order to reveal the new you.
Reread the chapter on Self Image in Mind Power into the 21st Century and begin practicing the suggested methods. You can start by acknowledging yourself for your good points, thereby building up a healthy self-image. As your self-esteem improves, and it will with attention, you will find outside events less threatening. The incredible power of your mind allows you to create yourself as whomever you choose. Keep a mental picture of yourself, of who you want to become, and keep feeding this image. It won't happen overnight but, with persistence and diligence, it will happen. Do it. The success of your relationships depends upon it.
Q Looking at a past monthly topic on intuition, I read about "going within." How do I go within? I find my mind power exercises easy, as I have tapes which guide me through the process. I have tried to meditate before, but I don't really know what I am doing and I get very distracted. Are there some books I should read, or could you suggest a simple and effective practice?
London
A There are many good books and courses available to teach you meditation. Rather than my suggesting one, I suggest you explore which ones seem most suitable for you. Everyone is different.
You are right; during meditation the mind gets very distracted and busy with thoughts coming and going all the time. One of the side effects of practicing mind power is that it disciplines the mind to think only the thoughts we choose, and in so doing gives us some control over the bombardment of thoughts.
Another simple technique is simply to count your breaths, gently sweeping away thoughts as they come to you. Count one to ten and then start over at one again. Doing this for five minutes daily is a helpful meditation. Again, remember that the best results come with regular practice.
Q My question is how can I get myself to where the affirmations sink in? It seems that when I start to affirm, my mind wanders, then I get very disappointed because nothing is happening, and I usually give up. I don't want to quit, but can you tell me how to keep fighting, and how long I should do the affirmation? I read in your mind power book about the affirmation Emile Cou did, and I've tried that one-just to affirm a healthy body and mind-but I'm not sure exactly how to do it. Can you help me, and possibly help with a affirmation I can use to finally succeed where I feel I've failed so many times before?
Redford, Michigan
A Affirmations are deceptively simple and powerful. The message in your affirmations naturally sinks in through the process of repetition. Repetition is the key. Sometimes when you say them, your mind will wander; other times you will be listening to them. Either way, it doesn't really matter because if you're doing them every day for a few moments, they will have an effect eventually. Don't concern yourself with an immediate effect. Be diligent in doing them daily. Once again daily repetition over a period of time is the key.
Regarding Emile Cou, the affirmation I believe you're referring to is, "Every day in every way, I'm getting better and better." To do this affirmation, simply repeat it for several minutes each day. It will naturally assist your health and well being.
Q After reading your books and listening to the tapes, I have established aggressive goals for 1999 in the areas of spirituality, wisdom, health, wealth and success. Having done so, how can I stay focused and motivated?
Richmond, Canada
A Two things to consider:
1.It's good to establish "aggressive" goals for yourself but don't forget intermediate and short-term goals. Break you larger goals into smaller objectives and acknowledge yourself when you achieve them.
2. Make sure you don't overextend yourself with two many Mind Power goals. Spirituality, wisdom, health, wealth and success. Is there anything you've left out? If you try to do too many things at once, too often none of them happen. I would consider choosing two or three goals that are most important to you and using your Mind Power to achieve these.
Also you can stay focused and motivated by daily charting yourself with your Mind Power exercises. As long as you're doing your exercises daily you will stay motivated.
Q How I wish I could list here each and every happening in my life that grew from the power of my mind; alas, I would have to open my own website!
I grew up in a home with a mother who "planted the seed" of enabling and using my mind. How it worked I didn't really know, but I knew we were part of something very special. Some 10/11 years ago, I heard of you and started following the directions as set out in Mind Power and Money, Success & You. In this time of reading and practicing Mind Power, one of the things I managed to do was to throw the stigma of "stepchildren v/s stepmother" out our door. I have managed to raise five children whom I love and adore, and vice versa, for 14 years now.
Negative forces that were planted each and every day (until I proved them wrong) were "posted" in my direction. Yet I refused to take the normal "step-family relationship" route. The things that were said were: "She is too young and inexperienced to cope with 5 children, aged between 5-15"; "Those children will give her hell!" and "No woman can bring up another woman's children". Oh, there were thousands more negative forces wanting so desperately for me to fail.
Instead I have found happiness within that cannot be described in words. I also had another (biological) son whilst sharing the lives of my other children (Yes, I made them mine in my mind AND heart my wonderful, fabulous "gifts".) We went through some tough times, sure! But do you know what? We came through it all! Enjoy our success when I tell you - I am only 36 years young!

A Thank you for your e-mail. It will inspire all our readers, and just imagine what great destinies lie ahead for one so young who has accomplished so much.
Q I have followed your techniques for some time now and thank you for bringing a lot of optimism into my life. Unfortunately, I have been manifesting a large deal I was expecting to close for some time, and today I received the news that I did not get it. I followed all your suggestions rigorously. Obviously every now and again I was subject to the fear factor, but I immediately replaced these thoughts with positive thoughts, to the extent that this was the first deal ever where I was not awash with nervousness. This deal was not out of the realm of possibility. What could possibly have gone wrong?
Ireland
A I have no idea what could have gone wrong. But let me give you two perspectives. Firstly, Mind Power is not a magic wand that allows you to achieve every goal every time in the exact ways that you image. A star salesperson does not make every sale. Sometimes he fails. The best baseball player in the world does not hit a home run every time at bat. Sometimes he strikes out. A successful entrepreneur does not do everything right. Sometimes things don't work for her.
Nothing is one hundred percent. Mind Power means you win more than you lose, but it doesn't mean you win EVERY time, or that EVERY deal goes your way.
Secondly: In my book The Practice of Happiness, I have a chapter called Good luck, Bad Luck. The premise and teaching of this chapter is that often experiences that seem to be unfortunate or bad luck turn out to be favourable for us in the long run. Who knows? Perhaps not getting this deal is actually the best thing that could have happened to you? Only time will tell. Hope this helps.
Q There are significant times in one's life when help, if one needs it and asks for it, usually arrives. I have not even finished reading Mind Power, but must tell you that it is a lifeline. I have pursued, for many years, a way out of the mire,' being inclined to depression and destructive habits formed as a result, perhaps, of a messy childhood.
My question: is it really possible to replace thoughts of absolute worthlessness with thoughts that stop, forever, the downward spiral? I know that I am looking at the worst of my fears coming true because I feel so unable to convince myself that I am valuable. I have felt this way over and over again. On the other hand I know I have done good things and have had real strength. I so badly want to do things differently. Any advice will be carefully considered and implemented. I am 46 years old, divorced for many years, and have three adult children in good shape.

A Help comes from many sources and often in the most unusual ways. I am pleased Mind Power Into the 21st Century has made its way into your possession. Once you have finished the book you will possess the keys to unlocking a whole new life for yourself. However, you must practice the techniques, as this month's topic of the month explains.
Our self-image is created through the countless thoughts we think about ourselves. If we have had traumatic experiences, such as you suggested ("a messy childhood"), it's easy to fall into a pattern of putting ourselves down and blaming ourselves for everything unfortunate that has happened to us. It becomes a habit, feeding upon itself, and we forever remain within its power. Luckily this can be reversed, and fairly quickly too. A regular program of acknowledging and building a new self-image with supportive daily affirmations will do wonders. You will be surprised at what a month or two of regular practice will produce within you.
At forty-six you have an exciting second half of your life ahead of you to do or become whatever you choose. Study and practice all the techniques in the book and you're going to soar.
