Q What are your views on NLP? It seems to be a new dimension in mind powers. I do not want to speak too much out of turn because I have not studied it in depth, but I did listen to a cassette about it and it told how you can change beliefs and bad experiences by "re-living the experience backwards" in your mind; merely a few seconds and that is it! You need not repeat affirmations for 90 days or so. It sounds a little far fetched don't you think? I would love to hear your views on this. By the way, I'm busy reading "THE PRACTICE OF HAPPINESS" and really enjoying it.
London, United Kingdom
A NLP, which stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming, is not new. It has been around for decades and is another method of harnessing the mind. Personally I find it much too complicated, and while I agree with some aspects of it, I disagree with others. That being said, many people gain value from it, and I can't argue with that.
You can always change beliefs; that is a major part of what I teach in Mind Power. However, you can't change bad experiences. What you can change is your reaction to the bad experience. Traumatic experiences often leave lasting imprints, to our detriment, if they are not processed to gain the wisdom from them. Every experience can benefit us in some way if we let it. Reliving an experience backwards for a few seconds will do nothing unless you can see it with new eyes. It is a good idea to approach new or old experiences that still haunt us. With time we can see them more objectively and actually realize that in some ways we are stronger, wiser, more compassionate as a result of those experiences. You can re-experience old experiences and re-live them with new perspectives, thereby putting closure to them. This indeed can be very valuable.
Q Is it possible to have too many goals to visualize? In other words I have a primary
goal of making the 2000 Olympic Team (this is what I visualize). The thing that I'm having trouble with is that I want to have a great season overall also. I want to do great on
the collegiate level this year, as well as make it to the European circuit and perform well
there. Will my visualization and affirmations of my primary goal be sufficient
to fill the rest of my goals, or should I have separate visualization sessions for the
rest of my goals as well?
Wisconsin, USA
A Yes, it is possible to have too many goals. If one has too many goals, it's very easy for your energy to become dispersed, and for none of your goals to be achieved. However, in your case, it seems like the goals are all intermixed into one--the fact of you wanting to be a tremendous athlete. You say that you would like to make the 2000 Olympic team. If this is your ultimate goal, then this is what you should be working towards. However, how close are you to that goal? If you are not yet doing well on the collegiate level, then first of all, you should focus on winning contests at the collegiate level. Or you might want to simply focus on being proficient in your particular sport. For example, if you're a runner, you might want to start visualizing and imagining yourself running as a great athlete, seeing and feeling yourself running the times that are fast enough to win at the collegiate level, and then at the national level, and then ultimately at the Olympic level. So what you need to do is clearly define your goal, and once you have your goal, break it down into smaller goals and objectives that you want to achieve, then focus on those things. An ultimate large goal needs to be broken down into smaller goals in order to achieve it.
Q Does religion have any role in your techniques? The reason for the question is that the church of some denominations does not agree with the fact that we can make a difference to our lives on our own. What is your experience in this regard in other countries, like India for example, and even where you live?
South Africa
A There is no religion involved in any of my Mind Power techniques. I do not believe that it is my role or place to teach spiritual principles to people. I am restricting my expertise to making you proficient at working with Mind Powers.
You're absolutely right that there are some churches and denominations that do not agree with what I say. I find this quite baffling, as the Bible, for example, is filled with Mind Power principles. I would refer you to the quote: "Whatsoever things ye pray for and ask for, believing that ye have received, ye will receive it." Now if that's not pure visualization, I don't know what is.
Regarding other cultures, in India and sometimes with Muslims, elsewhere there is reference to the fact that everything is the will of almighty God, and so sometimes there is a reluctance to use Mind Powers. However, I think everything is interpretive and I certainly have had many Muslims who have either taken my course or followed my principles through the Web site or my books and tapes. So while some people do not agree with what I teach, the vast majority of people seem to agree that not only does it work, but that it is in harmony with the greatest good, and that it is with God's will as well that we take control of our lives.
Q What is the method, if you know of one, for quickly manifesting something? Say, money for example. Thanks.
Portland, Oregon
A Rob a bank. No, seriously, go to your subconscious using the methods suggested in Mind Power Into the 21st Century and ask it your question. It knows your personal situation better than I do, and better than even yourself. There are lots of innovative ways to make money. It's the "quickly" part that might pose a problem. And how much are you trying to manifest? One thousand dollars or a million dollars? That makes a difference too. But your subconscious has the answers.
Q I knew about mind power and had already used it for years, just because of my huge imagination. I can now say that this power is even greater than anybody could have thought, just because of the synergistic effect. There is no need to think about something for three or more months; even one thought can lead to your purpose. It may happen two or three years later. The joke is that all our thoughts and feelings (which are even more important) are always around us. They only are waiting for the exact circumstances to become real. Think about what you think please. Sooner or later it will be done.
You must make a habit of great thoughts. Think only about love, abundance, happiness. The fact is that when we decide to change our life, life begins to change immediately. Your decision must be very strong though. No exit to the past. All the magic of the earth will begin to help you. Always feel that you are the king of the world. This is important. No sorrow or fear, for this can damage the result. Be strong, be brave, as all famous people of the world have been. And do not forget about responsibility. You will answer for all your thoughts now and in the future (even in the next life). Your children and other people will also answer for your thoughts. You must only think--all will be done, not by you, as you are only a worker on this big PLANET. I know what I am saying--I am a professional in this area, area of thought.
Moscow, Russia
A Thank you for sharing your deep and eloquent thoughts, and taking the time to translate them into English. Your observations stand on their own merit and need no further comment from me. Well done.
Q I am an enthusiast for John Kehoe's mind power techniques. I love them very much. Thanks to his teachings, I have been able to achieve a lot of goals, for instance, getting a good job, studying abroad and getting married to a very nice woman. I am eager to meet John Kehoe sometime. I wish John Kehoe's continued success.
I am struggling to improve my English, especially listening and speaking skills, which are required to survive in my company. English is one of the toughest obstacles for Asians like me. Whenever I find myself unable to improve my English as much as I expect, I am in anguish, which ends up with discontinuance of my effort. Such discontinuance lasts several days, and sometimes several weeks. I am well aware that this bad habit retards my improvement, but it is very hard to quit it. Could you advise me of how to quit the habit and keep my passion to achieve the goal of improving my English?
Seoul, South Korea
A Your success in other areas of your life using Mind Power will also manifest in your being fluent in English. Your writing is excellent and you should acknowledge yourself for this, which brings me to my main point. Practice acknowledging yourself for every small victory and improvement you make in your listening and speaking. If you focus only on being completely fluent, you get disappointed when you're less than perfect. Set smaller goals and acknowledge yourself for achieving them. Build a "success vibration" into your English fluency. Look for every small improvement to acknowledge. This way you will start to feel good about your progress. A good affirmation would be, "Every day, in every way, I'm getting better and better at English." I look forward to meeting you one day.
Q Will you be touring or speaking anywhere soon? It would be most enjoyable to be able to listen in person to man who has helped me with my "Mind Power."
Temple, Texas
A I have been on a two-year "listening" sabbatical and have not done any speaking dates since 2002. The sabbatical ends this year and I will begin touring again in 2005 with a wealth of new material. Check the web site in a few months and any new speaking dates will be listed
Q Your recent topic on Fear was interesting. I've had a lifelong phobia of car accidents. I'd like to know what affirmation and seeding technique I can use to combat my fear of being in a car accident? (Or any other specific phobia like fear of whales' or fear of death.') Your article on Fear has actually made my phobia worse because of the realization that it may happen... so what should I do?
South Africa
A Yes, it is a dilemma to realize that your phobia could in fact help cause the thing you fear. The solution to this problem, thankfully, is simple. Project in your mind regularly the exact opposite of what the phobia is suggesting. Daily visualize yourself taking a car ride and arriving safely. Affirm to yourself daily, "I am safe in cars, "I always arrive safely," and similar affirmations.
Use the four techniques to eliminate negatives (see past topics) whenever the thought of an accident arises in your mind. Be diligent with your thoughts and your phobia will disappear. It's like a fire when it is starved of oxygen it goes out. Similarly if your phobia is starved of the thoughts that support it, it too will be extinguished.
Q I want to know about mind vibes. In what way are they related to one's character, likes, feelings, etc.?
India
A Sometimes you hear people say things like, " I didn't like his vibes," or, "I don't know much about her, but I get really good vibes from her."
What does that mean? Everything that happens internally with us, our thoughts, beliefs, intentions, desires resonate within us and create a vibration of energy. A person with a strong character and compassionate nature will generally give off those vibrations. A peaceful person will give off peaceful vibes. You can tell when you're in the presence of someone who is calm and peaceful, as opposed to someone who is going through inner turmoil, without them saying a word. Sometimes you get a very uneasy feeling about a person, often with good reason, although on the surface everything seems fine. Vibrations are real and not a figment of our imagination.
Q I grew up in a Jewish home learning about the Torah. I have always greatly respected the religion and the rabbis I have spoken to. However, recently I found out I am not officially Jewish because my mom didn't go through a proper Jewish conversion. I wouldn't say I am incredibly religious, but to hear that I am not Jewish was kind of strange, as I felt close to Judaism. But still I wasn't officially Jewish in Jewish law.
Something that further upset and disappointed me was when a rabbi told me that Jews have free choice because they have a holy soul, and non-Jews do not have free choice. He said that non-Jews are controlled. He also said that because I learned the Torah, I am obligated to it even though I am not Jewish. I don't have free choice and am obligated to follow the Torah? Obligated? Not just one rabbi told me this. What these rabbis were saying to me did not make sense, but I take it seriously. My mind power went down the drain and I questioned if I was a robot or not.
Los Angeles, CA
A One of the great gifts we as human beings have been given is that of free will and choice. Each of us chooses our beliefs and directs our life through the power of choice. We have free will to do this. This is my belief. Your rabbi has every right to believe something different. That is his choice.
I don't agree with his opinion, but I honour his right to have that opinion. I think you would find many rabbis who would also have different options on that matter, and that too is their right.
You can choose to follow whatever spiritual belief you want. Christians can study Judaisim, Jews can study Buddhism; there is no exclusion anywhere in the spiritual realms. You are under no obligation to study and practice any religion except that which resonates in your heart as true. If your heart is with Judaism, who cares if you're not "officially" Jewish. Do you think God will mind? Trust your heart and do what feels right. Also, Mind Power fits in well and compliments all religions, or it can be done separately from religion; that is the beauty of this system. So the choice of what to do is yours.
Q My dad handed me your book in 1997 when I was going through a divorce and
feeling very depressed about how awful my life had turned out (I was 23). It really helped me, in numerous ways. Now those ways seem small, but at the time they were a big deal to me. I paid off about 6K in credit card debt that my ex ran up in my name, eventually met a man, and bought a house. All things I really felt were far-fetched back then.
Now at age 30 I am embarking on a singing career. This also initially felt far-fetched, even though I've been told throughout my life that I should be singing. It's always been my dream, but I was afraid to admit it. My glitch and question is.... What affirmation can I use to begin earning a living as a singer? I've taken classes, been told by professionals that I should be earning a living as a singer. I've been trying to figure out my outlet but it eludes me. Can you help?
Carver, Minnesota
A This question is very appropriate to the Topic of the Month (see Practice #3)
Affirmations are very powerful and you're not limited to just one. Also the exact wording and tense of the affirmations get fine-tuned as you use them. You will find that you change a word or two as you continue to say them until the affirmation feels "just right." I'm saying this because the affirmations I'm giving you are just suggestions on where to start.
1. Do what you love; the money will follow.
2. I earn a good living with my signing.
3. Opportunities to sing are everywhere.
4. My voice is my success.
5. I will be rewarded well for my talent.
This should start you out. You can make the affirmations specific, such as, "My audition will be fabulous and I'll get the gig." Or more general, such as, "My singing career is attracting lots of opportunities." There are literally thousands of affirmations you can make up.
Q Does WRITING an affirmation, or anything positive related to your goals have an affect on your goals becoming reality? I once read about a technique where you DRAW pictures related to your goals, or drawing yourself in the situation you want to be in, which was said to have an effect on your goals.
Unknown
A Yes, these are all valuable techniques. You don't have to just say affirmations, you can write them down, or draw pictures. In reality what you are doing with all these techniques is focusing the mind on what it is you want. Whatever the mind focuses on regularly and consistently begins to print on the subconscious mind, and once this happens it begins to attract from the outer world of our experiences those situations. So all these methods are very relevant and effective. Actually it would be very fun and valuable to use all these methods.
Q I have been practising Mind Power for the last 2 years and have noticed positive transformations in all aspects of my life. One question that I have is, what is the role of fortune tellers or people who give life readings? I have been given a reading that says, "When I'm 27 (I'm currently 23) I will want to marry a girl. However, if I choose to marry her, my life will end up in misery."
I am currently in a relationship, and I'm happy to say that she also practices mind power! Together we have learned so much more than I could alone, sharing our energy! If she were to be the one I wish to marry at 27, I can't see how that could possibly end in disaster! The idea that such a union will result in disaster is totally against my core belief, which is that what I believe determines what I make true! I am not sure what significance life readings such as the one I had have in relation to mind power.
Wellington, New Zealand
A The role of fortune tellers is not an easy one to address. There is no doubt that the power of suggestion is huge, so regardless of whether fortune tellers are reflecting to you any true reality, if you "believe it," it can have an effect on you. If it's a positive message it can have a positive effect; if it's a negative message it can have a negative effect, but always be aware that it is your acceptance or rejection of the reading where the power lies.
Personally I'm not a big fan of fortune tellers who give life readings. I think the whole field is filled with charlatans on the one hand, and well-meaning people who have no idea what they're doing on the other. Not to say there are not individuals who are authentic, but they are few and far between, and you are unlikely to meet them via an ad in the newspaper. My advice: Buyer Beware.
