Q When you were here I came to you with a specific problem and you said that I lack self-love. All the things in my life are falling into place except this particular issue. I am doing my exercises about self-love. Is this the way it works? Things seem to come right in stages little by little. If I continue will I find the correct partner for myself?
Johannesburg
A Working with self-acceptance and self-love is a day-by-day process and it does indeed bring changes within oneself by small increments. An excellent technique to use is acknowledging. Make up a list of all the things that make you feel good and wonderful about yourself. You can also make up an acknowledging list on why you are a good partner and all the things that you can bring to a relationship. And in this way you can vibrate with a vibration that is self-accepting. There is nothing worse than a needy vibration coming from an individual, and anybody can pick that up. It actually detracts from you and repels possible suitors. When you can vibrate with success and self-esteem then you attract people to you.
Q Do you think it would be possible to win the lottery using Mind Powers? Have you heard of or know anyone using Mind Power related ideas to win a multimillion-dollar jackpot? Do you have any thoughts on this, and any suggestions on manifesting an occurrence?
Virginia, USA
A It certainly is possible to use mind power to win the lottery. However, it's also possible to find a needle in a haystack. I always tell people that it is probably the worst thing to try to work on using mind powers because the odds against winning the lottery are so high, plus you have literally millions of other people putting energy and thoughts into also winning the lottery. It would be far better for you to work on abundance coming to you and let the universe decide in which way it is going to unfold for you.
Having said this, I have had past students report to me that they have won lotteries. However, whether this is due to mind power or simply coincidence, I'm not sure. But I do know that working for abundance and on vibrations of abundance, following the techniques in my books and tapes, will serve you far better in the long run than simply focusing on the lottery.
Q How long does it take to change an unpleasant habit through the methods taught in Mind Power such as affirmation, visualization, etc.?
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
A Habits are created by repeatedly reinforcing an action or thought. To re-create new habits you need to first identify the habit you wish to change, and then begin a mind power program to re-create in your mind the new habit you wish to develop. Sometimes this can be accomplished in one or two weeks, but generally a new habit takes longer to imprint itself into the subconscious. My experience is that a sixty- to ninety-day program will definitely imprint a new belief or habit. Everyone is different, but you can be assured that if you put that amount of time into the effort you will certainly see results.
Q I have been practicing affirmations for about a month - being "Lots of money and opportunities are coming my way." Nothing seems to be happening; in fact things are getting worse. I have received 4 summons in 1 week. Please help and advise if I am doing something wrong.
Durban, South Africa
A Are you sure you weren't affirming "Lots of summons are coming my way?" Seriously, as we change our thoughts and consciousness our reality changes to match it. However, it is quite possible in the beginning stages for nothing to happen, or even for things to get worse. Reality is a delayed reflection of your thoughts and beliefs. Years and years of wrong thinking aren't necessarily going to turn around in a day or two, or even a week or month. Quite often it does, but not always. Continue with your exercises and why not add more than just the affirmations. Things will change for you. And just as a side note, why not slow down or put money in the parking meter? Four summons in one week-I think you have to take some responsibility for that.
Q When does your site get updated? I eagerly await your February article and drop by every day with no luck.
Johannesburg, South Africa
A Good question. The web site was officially launched in September 1997, with the intention of having new information monthly. So far each month I have posted a new topic of the month as well as new Questions and Answers, but not always on the 1st of the month. Certainly it gets posted by the 15th of the month. Try logging on then and you won't be disappointed.
Q Are there any dangers in doing the techniques?
A Not really. Not knowing about Mind Powers is dangerous because you'll probably use them in a negative way, hindering yourself. But once you know about the powers of your mind and how to use them it gives you incredible tools for your life. I guess the biggest potential problem would be manifesting something that you think you want but which isn't really what you need. It reminds me of the old saying about the man who climbed the ladder of success only to find it set against the wrong wall. I advise all my students to check with their subconscious before attempting to manifest any major goal in their life. Make sure you get strong signals that this is indeed a worthy goal. Plug into your inner wisdom. Not all paths are ours to walk, and some are more appropriate than others.
Q John, I have been practicing affirmations for several weeks now, but the last few days they do not seem to be having any effect. I am still repeating them, but a whole lot of negative beliefs seem to have arisen to the surface lately (same ol' same ol'-that I'm not good enough). Can we go through phases like this, still repeating the affirmations as positively as we can, and come out of them?
New Zealand
A Our consciousness has its cycles, and like the tides of the ocean it ebbs and flows. Sometimes it will be very easy to believe in what you're saying to yourself. Other times it will be like banging your head against a brick wall. Do not think that your affirmations are not having any effect. What is happening is you are hitting upon some old belief systems or grooves in your thought patterns. This is okay. Don't get stressed out; just continue with your affirmations. You are creating a new belief system or groove that will with time overcome your "same ol' same ol. "Phases like this are normal and expected. When you do your affirmations you shake things up and bring them to the surface. It is especially valuable to keep doing the exercises at this time.
Q Regarding your new book, Mind Power For Children, what if the child has just turned thirteen? Why do you limit the appeal to twelve years of age? What do you suggest for a young thirteen,' or what extra work can I do with your children's book in that situation?
North Vancouver, Canada
A You are correct, my new book is for children ages three to twelve. Anyone who has reached the teen years would in all likelihood best be served by reading my original book, Mind Power Into the 21st Century.
