Q I have reached a very strange stage on my path to success. I'm very young for the position I hold in my industry, or so my colleagues tell me. I currently manage a staff of highly qualified and experienced individuals. I am as qualified if not more than them, but I do not have the same market exposure/experience they have. For some reason I seem to be limiting myself. I keep on thinking that maybe I did not deserve my position, that the promotions I received were not sincere, that there is maybe a "trick up the sleeve." This situation is driving me crazy and affecting my performance. Is this a normal reaction to rapid growth?
Curious to hear from you
Address unknown
A Congratulations on the success that you are experiencing. While it is gratifying to receive this success, sometimes when success comes to you early or easily, there is a natural inclination to wonder why it's happening, or if it is justified. Having these thoughts is only natural. However, the fact that these thoughts are driving you crazy and affecting your performance is certainly not to be desired, and I think that we should look at eliminating those feelings.
What I would do is work on two things. Work on your self-image and work on acknowledging. These two techniques will be excellent for you. Make up your acknowledging list, acknowledging yourself for all the reasons you have been successful. What you're going to find is that you are a very talented individual and that all the good things that are happening to you are as a result of your talent and your work, and are therefore your due.
The same thing with your self-image. Begin to take on a self-image of yourself as very confident, very successful, very dynamic. See that all these things that are happening to you are just a natural result of who and what you are. By working with these two techniques you will come to accept the situation as being natural and normal and you will go on to even greater success. All the best.
Q I would like to ask about using a date in Mind Power exercises. Say if I want something to occur by a fixed date, should I include that date in my affirmations/visualizations? Also, do you think if I use a date which is very near to the day I start using Mind Powers for that goal, will it actually make the process of manifestation faster? Or it will it have no effect? In some of my goals, attaching the date becomes necessary, so how should I do this?
Sri Lanka
A There is no clear answer to this question. There are two schools of thought about using deadlines to achieve goals. One is that it is very necessary to use deadlines for goals, the other that it can be counterproductive to use deadlines and goals. I actually don't have a hard and fast rule. If you feel that a deadline for your goal is absolutely imperative, then by all means use it. However, you did say that the deadline you're using is quite soon after starting your Mind Power exercises. Mind Powers are not magic. They work with the energy and powers of the universe, and quite often these things need time to manifest. So artificially placing a quick deadline on a goal doesn't necessarily mean that you're going to achieve that goal any quicker. I think it's a matter of what feels right for you.
Q I'm not sure what to do about my future. I want to join the army but I don't want to leave my dad's business. I'm twenty-four years old; I have practiced your techniques but everything is still upside down. Please help me. If I go I cannot come back to my dad again. He cannot wait forever for me, which I understand. I've wanted to leave for four years now but I still don't know what to do.
South Africa
A It's often hard to make decisions. Look deep within yourself and you will find that one decision "feels" right. Trust that feeling. Another simple technique is to affirm to yourself twenty or thirty times that "I always make the right decision," then without thinking, suddenly make the decision. This process bypasses the logical mind and you gain your wisdom directly from your subconscious. "Fortune favours the bold," said Rupert Murdoch and he is right. Do what your heart tells you to do. You're only twenty-four years old-you have many great destinies ahead of you.
Q Your book states that our dreams can guide and instruct us if we can learn to decipher them. But are they not merely the subconscious working on things that we have been doing or thinking about during the day and not 'hidden messages?' e.g. I dreamt that I was eating piece of bread and half-way through I saw that it was mouldy and pointed out to my husband how yuk it was, and then I carried on eating it! However, I remember that during the day, I had opened a loaf of bread to see if it had any mould on it, because I had brought it from a shop that has bread that is not always fresh. So, when I think about it, I think that most of my dreams are usually based around something I have said or done during the day. How can they therefore show us where we are wrong or bring to our attention the cause of inner disharmony or emotional distress?
New Zealand
A Not every dream is a message from our subconscious. Sometimes, as you suggest, the dream is simply processing our day-to-day activities. However, if you watch your dreams closely you will notice that some of them have nothing whatsoever to do with your day-to-day life, and are loaded with interesting and bizarre symbolism. When you wake up from a dream that feels unusual, write it down and begin examining it. The subconscious most definitely uses dreams as a method of reaching and instructing us.
Q I am an elite athlete who has been using Mind Power techniques over the last year for competition. I have been successful until two months ago when I lost the most important tournament of the year. I don't know what exactly went wrong; I was very capable of winning and I totally believed that I would do it. Although I had some stressful things happen in my personal life prior to the competition, I felt that I would still rise to the occasion. I still haven't gotten over the disappointment, and I am now having trouble visualizing and believing the affirmations I am telling myself. How do I get back the confidence I once had?
Vancouver, Canada
A Picking oneself up after a disappointment is the mark of a champion. Muhammad Ali always said, "A champion has got to be able to take a good punch." I don't know any athlete who wins 100 percent of the time. It's impossible to win 100 percent of the time. And this applies not only to athletes but sales reps, entrepreneurs, people from all walks of life.
Disappointments happen. So what do you do? You pick yourself up and approach the next event with renewed confidence. Professional coaches know how to pick up their team after a tough loss - it's their job. We often are our own coaches in life. We have to have the ability to rebound not once or twice but many times. You mention that you're an elite athlete, well, act like an elite athlete and rebound like a pro. Your next victory is awaiting you. Get your Mind Powers working for you again. The loss will soon fade in memory.
Q I have read your book and have been practicing many of the mind power techniques outlined. This has undoubtedly opened a wealth of self-confidence and optimism within myself. I am in the middle of a career change. I find myself with so many opportunities that I am overwhelmed by the possibilities. How might I use the mind power techniques to narrow down my choices to a few that I can really decide between?
Canada
A What a wonderful position to be in "... so many opportunities that I am overwhelmed by the possibilities." You're right, however; you will have to choose one. Two points to remember:
1. Follow your passion. What interests you? What would be an exciting and stimulating career? Go for something that nourishes you. See the monthly web site topic entitled, "Follow the Call."
2. Harness your subconscious mind. Use the three steps outlined on page 49 in Mind Power Into the 21st Century. Your subconscious is your partner in success and will help you make the right decision.
And don't forget to acknowledge yourself for doing your Mind Power exercises and creating so many opportunities for yourself.
Q 1) I am working to reduce debt. What is the best affirmation that does not focus on the debt. I have been saying "I have more than enough money for all that I need and desire." But this somehow does not feel powerful, and when I say, "I am debt free," I feel I am focusing on the debt.
2) I believe in visualization and practice regularly. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for over a year now; people say forget about it and it will happen. What is your opinion, as I don't know how to forget about it? (We are both medically healthy.)
Richmond, BC Canada
A 1) You're right that using the phrase "debt free" is weak. Focus on lots of money coming in. If this happens you will naturally pay off your debts. Try affirmations like, "I attract money easily," "Lots of money is coming my way," "Money is flowing to me." etc.
2) You can't forget about it, but you can take the pressure off. You can take the attitude that although you want a child and are projecting for a child, if it is not meant to be, so be it. You can release it. This in no way detracts from the power of your visualization. It relaxes you and you can succeed more easily then. In the meantime have fun trying.
Q In 1996 my life changed dramatically! One of my friends gave me your book Mindpower to read. It just totally blew my mind! I am very interested in the whole concept of "mindpower" and everything that goes with it. I just wish that I had gotten to know about it sooner in my life. But then again, I don't think that I would have believed in it if I read your book earlier. I believe that the student will be given the knowledge when he is ready for it. And I was quite ready for it when your book was given to me to read.
I hope you can answer this question. I have been studying law for the past 5 years. Recently though, I realized that this was not something that I want to do. I would rather become a psychologist. I feel that this is my true calling and that my purpose in life is to help other people with their problems. Now, my problem is this: financially I am not
that strong and I will need to find a way to support myself and pay for my new studies. Now, I believe that the Universe/my subconscious mind/God will provide if one really believe in one's purpose, really wants to achieve one's goals and is passionate about pursuing them. I don't have a problem in this area. My problem is that sometimes I begin to doubt and wonder whether or not this whole idea of "mindpower" isn't just a big lie and scam. I guess I just want you to tell me that the power of one's mind is real and that I am doing the right thing, since it is a big decision to make, one that will definitely change the course of my life. Could you please give me your views on this?
Stellenbosch, South Africa
A It's only natural to doubt sometimes. You've obviously seen success in the past using this system, so it's helpful to remind yourself of that when you're wondering if it's "a big lie and scam?" Having taught mind power for 25 years now, I can assure you it works magnificently! I've seen thousands of people turn their lives around and get what they want out of life.
Pursue your calling with all your heart and never look back. This is undoubtedly the path to a fulfilling life.
Q Hey, how do you make everyone around you be as positive about life as
you are?
Maseru, Lesotho
A Special greetings to Lesotho. For those readers who don't know Lesotho, and most will not, it is a tiny African country bordered by South Africa. I mention this only to express my thrill at sharing this website with viewers/readers from such diverse backgrounds and locations. We are indeed, as Marshall McLuhan predicted years ago, a "global village." We have viewers/readers from over forty countries logging on each month, something to ponder as we read our questions and answers and topic of the month.
But now to your question. You cannot make everyone around you happy, nor should you want or need to. Your happiness and positive outlook will in itself help many others. Your success will help others. Remain always true to your positive outlook, help others as you can, experience fun and joy each day, and design a great life. That in itself will be a wonderful accomplishment and blessing to the world.
Q If I want to have greater prosperity and lead a more spiritual life, how do I achieve this by using our mind power to focus on both at the same time?
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
A You do so by being comfortable with both. Why is there such a divide between living a spiritual life and having financial security? The answer is because we have faulty beliefs about money. If we believe that we will have to compromise our values, work too hard, be dishonest etc. to be successful, this in itself will stop us. Your desire for prosperity must be built upon a firm foundation of integrity, and must include all your spiritual beliefs. Otherwise there will be conflict within yourself. I suggest you read the chapter "Is Rich a Four-Letter Word" in the book Money Success & You. It explains some of the common faulty beliefs people have about prosperity.
One final thought: Your success helps many people. Your failure helps no one. Don't be selfish. Succeed.
Q How much time you spend doing Mind Power exercises is a personal choice. I find that a daily 30-minute session is ideal. It is a long enough time to get results and yet short enough that it is doable. The mistake many people make is trying to do too much at once. Taking on an ambitious program of one or two hours a day might seem like it will work more quickly, but what normally happens is you burn out after a week or two, and so stop doing the exercises. Pick the amount of time that is comfortable for you.
Never allow fear in your mind. It is counterproductive and is in reality Mind Power in reverse. You mention that you have a "fear of things not working out." Replace this fear with the thought that "all will work out fine" every time the fear appears. Being diligent in catching the fear and working daily to manifest your new reality will work well for you. You can also rest assured that this system has worked for millions of people just like you.
A I am 16, turning 17 in October. I am currently in my last grade and I still don't know what to do after I've graduated high school. I've been interested in self-help books from the moment I discovered them and have books by Napoleon Hill, Anthony Robbins, and Dr. Joseph Murphy. In one of Joseph Murphy's books, he advises people like me who still do not know what they really want to do to question ourselves aloud in a quiet place (I've been doing this in my bed at night) and the answer may come from within. However, I want to ask you, how do you think the answer can come? I've been thinking for a long time about doing something, but I simply want to make sure that it is the right thing. I feel like I want to do what I've thought about for the wrong reason. Will/Can the answer come from the outside? From a pure coincidence? Or from within? (In which case I have no idea how it can.)
