Q John, I know that you are a busy man but I would like your personal response to the following question. I am 28 years of age and have had a lot of bad experiences in life, but now I am doing a professional job and earn a nice living. The funny thing is that, even though I'm a bit under qualified, I used your techniques and got exactly what I wanted, my career. My problem is now that I have what I want, I feel stuck, useless and get depressed, with my confidence very down. I am also too emotional for a man; I feel like crying sometimes upon only seeing/hearing something emotional. Is this right? I need to excel in my career to feel great about myself and be respected by colleagues, and with the same breath I think I don't know what I actually want. Why am I feeling this way and how can I overcome these feeling of depression and despair (maybe due to something in the past or present)? How can I push myself further in my career and make me feel good about myself, proud of what I do and who I am? At this stage I am not using mind power.
South Africa
A You do not need to push yourself further in your career. What you need to do is to come to a realization that who and what you are now is more than sufficient to make you happy, that who and what you are now is all that you have to be. You mentioned in your letter that when you achieve success it feels empty and unfulfilling. This is very common for people who do not have a healthy self-esteem and who look for outside verification of their self-worth. And that's exactly what you're trying to do. You're trying to prove to yourself by achieving goals that you are good enough, but deep down within you, you have the feeling that you are not good enough. So, paradoxically, no matter how much you achieve you will never feel good about yourself until you begin working on your self-image. Look closely at yourself and try and find out what is it that you're running away from.
You mentioned that you have had past bad experiences. I strongly suspect that these past bad experiences have scarred and damaged you somewhat. Not permanently. Nothing in our psyche is permanent; however, there is work to be done. What I would do is to find simple things every day that you can acknowledge yourself for. Not huge achievements, but the everyday simple experiences that we go through. Look for small things that make you feel good about yourself. And don't worry about achieving large goals. The only goal that you should be working on is to feel fully content and happy with who and what you are now.
I would strongly suggest reading my new book, The Practice of Happiness, which has techniques, methods and practices on how we can become happy and have a simple and yet fulfilling life being just who we are.
Q In mid May I had a very large ulcer (size of a NZ 20 cent coin) appear on the side of my tongue, I was unable to talk and eat, and had great difficulty in swallowing. Two courses of antibiotics later the ulcer disappeared, leaving me with a numbness on the end of my tongue and parts of my mouth. The rest of the mouth was very tender. This has continued for 3 months now. I have always have taken vitamins and am now unable to take any, as they make me feel grotty.
I do have a large goal, which is achievable in 12-18 months. I feel calm about the goal as I know it will be achieved. Are you able to give an explanation of why my mouth is the way it is? I have always been healthy and fit. I have had tests with the medical profession and they inform me that I am otherwise healthy.

A Even the healthiest of us gets sick sometimes. Why does this happen? It's life. Sometimes the body needs to purge itself. Sometimes we need reminders as to how precious our health is. We tend to take it for granted when nothing is wrong and then when something like this happens we stop and appreciate how great everyday health is to us. Sometimes there are mysteries about our life and body that we don't understand.
My advice is don't fight it. Accept it as a process that is happening to you now, will have its time with you, and then will leave. Do your affirmations. (A great one is: "Every day in every way I'm getting better and better.") Visualize your tongue the way you want it to be and then let the healing energy cure you. I would also suggest listening to my "Health and Healing" tape, as well as the 60-day program contained in the "Healing Yourself" tape. I wish you a quick recovery.
Q I created an affirmation which goes - "Money and Opportunity is coming to Us." Is the word "us" correct usage? I think of my wife and myself when I say "us." Saying "me and my wife" or "my wife and I" seems awkward. Am I on the right track?
Culver City, California
A Your subconscious knows exactly what you mean by "us." Always use words that feel comfortable for you. You are on exactly the right track.
Q Humans use about ten percent of the brain, that's common knowledge. Our brains can do just about anything, including communicating with other parts of the brain through methods that do not connect cell to cell. Our bodies act on instinct and on their own when doing things (like the actions of white blood cells). Is it possible to control our brain, that is can we totally control our body? For example, if there is a virus in the body, can we communicate with our white blood cells and tell them what to attack, or tell our cells how to change their structure to avoid diseases? Can we as humans evolve inwards and truly harness the power of our mind? Or will our brains just take up space with out being able to fully tap the potential? Now that's a thought.
Rochester, Minnesota
A We are all evolving inwards. The next evolutionary leap will be a leap in consciousness and it is already happening in small ways everywhere you look. There have been many scientific experiments proving conclusively that the mind can influence and affect the bodily organs and cells. You can communicate with all parts of your body, telling them what to do and they will respond. You don't need to tell your cells how to change their structure to avoid diseases. Your cells know the body well and know what needs to be done. What you can do is encourage them by seeing your body as strong and vibrant and healthy. Healers often talk to the part of the body that they are trying to heal. If you can accept that every part of your body has its own consciousness and it is connected directly to you, this is easier done than one might originally imagine.
Q All my life I was sure that someday I would get lucky, and this is what happened when I read your book Money Success & You. I think this book was written especially for me. The main result is that I FOUND MY PURPOSE, and I swung my life to the positive. During the last half year I gained money and success. But now I am thinking more about money than my purpose, and I don't think this is my way. What should I do? Re-change my purpose, or...?
Atyrau, Kazakhstan
A First of all, congratulations on gaining money and success. Secondly, I want to credit and acknowledge you for realizing that by simply making money you might not be fulfilling your purpose. There is certainly more in life than just money and success. While I believe very strongly in the importance of success, I also believe there are purposes and callings beyond this which we should follow. Notice I used the plural, purposes and callings. In any given lifetime, we might have numerous purposes and callings, and these can change as our situation changes. Look within and ask, "What has passion and heart for me at this point of my life?" If you follow your inner instincts, they will lead you well.
