Monthly Mind Power Questions & Answers

July 2009

Q

I read your book Mind Power many years ago while in high school. Now I'm reaching my 30s, in a secure job, but unhappy in Calgary. What are some initial steps, beyond job searching, that I can do to prepare myself for making a big move? I'd be giving up so many things--family, some friends--but most of all my job security. I'm not sure if I can make this shift but feel it is so necessary. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

A

You should at first acknowledge yourself for being aware of these feelings and wanting to do something about them. Many people ignore them or are not sure why they feel this way, but you are aware that something is calling you to make a change. As you say, you "feel it is so necessary" and it is necessary. It is necessary that we honor these feelings; they are leading us to a more meaningful and interesting life. In my book The Practice of Happiness I share a practice called "Following the Call," and the call is made to all of us at different times in our lives. Sometimes we feel the call and sometimes we act on it. I will send you a copy. It is a great book.

Q

I have just read your book Mind Power Into the 21 st Century. My question is: when you say "develop a health consciousness" what exactly do you mean? In terms of health do you mean checking labels of foods to check sugar content, sodium content etc, or being 'afraid' of what you consider to be unhealthy?

A

Thank you for your question. When I speak of developing a health consciousness I am not advising you to look at labels or avoid certain foods. I am saying to "think" health. A health consciousness is one that focuses on health rather than sickness. You remind yourself many times every day about how your body is a miraculous healing mechanism. For ,when you cut yourself instantly the body kicks into action to begin healing. When you eat food the body naturally processes it. When you sleep your body regenerates itself with energy. When you get a cold your body heals itself. Think health. Remind yourself with affirmations how healthy you are. Give thanks for your health. Don't fear sickness. Don't focus on sickness. Don't think sickness. Have a health consciousness. The same principle works for a prosperity consciousness and any other consciousness you wish to create. Fill it with thoughts and beliefs and images that support that consciousness.

Q

Hi John! I want to ask you, if I am practising Mind Power almost every day, what will be the results, more than I expect or to a lesser degree of my expectations? I mean, how real will "the footsteps" imprinted on the subconcious be? Thanks for showing me how really deep this thing called life is; you are great man. I have great respect for all that you have written in your books!

A

If you practice Mind Power daily you will see noticeable results in your life. It is not a matter of expectation that will facilitate your results (though through the exercises you will begin to anticipate your success); rather it is simply working with the energy of your thoughts. What you focus on you attract, and using all the different Mind Power techniques gives you the methodology for imprinting on the subconscious. The subconscious is very receptive to suggestion and imprinting; it is designed so that we can use it.

Q

John, I just want to say that Mind Power is an excellent book. A friend let me borrow it a couple of weeks ago and I just finished reading it. I wish I could better understand our subconscious mind. It seems that we have the built-in potential for achieving so much more. Thank you for the Book.

A

Thanks for your kind thoughts. The Mind Power book has changed many lives and opened up many people to their potentials. Regarding the subconscious, you will come to understand it better as you work with it. And there are lots of ways to start this work; accessing the resources and past articles on this website will make it easy. Also, I will be writing more about it, and if you ever have a chance to attend one of my weekend seminars, you will learn much more about the subconscious. I will be doing one in Vancouver in October (details to be posted July 15th) but that is a bit distant from Hawaii. However, by just finishing the Mind Power book you have begun an adventure that will be a lifelong quest into the mystery of yourself. Keep coming back to this site, as much more teaching and information will be forthcoming every month.

Q

Hi, there John. Thanks for the book. It has helped and inspired me greatly. I have thrown myself into the exercises, practicing them diligently, and have already seen results after only a short period of time. My problem is that I have too many goals! Should I be focusing on one specific goal every couple of months, or can I alternate between a couple in my exercises every day? I'm just worried that scattering my energy in different directions will weaken the potency of my results.

A

There is a Mind Power maxim: "You crawl before you walk. You walk before you run." The meaning of this is that you must take it easy in the beginning of developing Mind Power, avoid trying to do everything at once. You are correct in being concerned about pursuing too many goals, as it will disperse your energy. In the beginning I suggest that you pick just a few things you want to manifest and create in your life. As you achieve these you move on to others. Once you have used these techniques many times and seen results in different areas of your life, you can work on more goals at one time, but to try and do this at this early stage would be a mistake.

Q

What do you think about the Kabbala and Jewish mysticism? Because in the Kabbala the power of thought is essential for reaching certain results and purposes.

A

I have studied the Kabbala for over twenty years and it is a rich and wonderful system that, as you say, encourages the use of the mind. The three religious systems that I am most familiar with are Christian mysticism, Zen Buddhism and the Kabbala. All of these systems are rich in knowledge and understanding of the human mind, and I am nourished and enlightened by their teachings.
